Hi, I’m Du Nghiem (b. 2003, Hanoi). I’m a Master of Architecture candidate at Rice University.
I graduated from Yale College in May 2025 with a B.A. in Architecture and Psychology, earning distinction in both majors.
I love desire paths, hammock naps, palm reading, sending postcards, and the cold feel of concrete. I am interested in memory preservation, mapping and counter-mapping.
I hope to design with curiosity, courage, and care.

Visual Exploration
Studying Zumthor’s Therme Vals, I am most driven by two design principles: first, the concept of meandering - there is no designated, fixed path to move through space; and second, how natural light mediates the hardness of the stone and the softness of the naked human skin.
The lamp consists of multiple levels and degrees of transparency and opacity. While certain spots within the apparatus require specific wooden blocks, others allow for unlimited combinations. The blockage and revelation of the light sources result in various lighting conditions and shadow projections; the fluid lights can either meander across space or be confined within the structure.
