Hi, I’m Du Nghiem (b. 2003, Hanoi). I’m a Master of Architecture candidate at Rice University.
I graduated from Yale College in May 2025 with a B.A. in Architecture and Psychology, earning distinction in both majors.
I love desire paths, hammock naps, palm reading, sending postcards, and the cold feel of concrete. I am interested in memory preservation, mapping and counter-mapping.
I hope to design with curiosity, courage, and care.

Academic Project
Fall 2024, Yale College
Instructors: Adam Hopfner & Talitha Liu
A hybrid education center and boathouse, the project resembles floating “lily pads” maneuvering a slow descent into the Mill River of New Haven, Connecticut. Balancing play (river exploration and kayaking) with preservation (boat building and maintenance, and wetland management), it serves as a space to democratize access to water and foster ecological stewardship.
MEANDER
The elevated building leave the terrain topography untouched and create multiple access levels: above, within, and beneath the “lily pads.” The wooden roofs curve inwards - an undulating rhythm that corresponds to the gradual slope of the floor beneath. The alternating placements of wooden walls and glass panels cultivate porosity and lightness.
A series of open passages and corridors form meandering paths through the building, inviting moments of pause and slow, deliberate movement. The hanging eaves and open courtyards soften the boundaries between the manmade and the natural, inside and outside.
PROGRAM
Pedestrians enter the site by following the Mill River trail or directly stepping down from the overpass onto a “lily pad.” The program consists of office, classroom, exhibition space, workshop, forum, and boat storage. Functional spaces are set in array around inner circular courtyards, catering to different modes of gathering.
